Frequently Asked Questions
What happens in the first session?
In the first session we will go over some initial paperwork and an intake that I have emailed to you to fill out ahead of time. Reviewing this with you allows me to have a clear picture of you and your therapy goals. We will also get to know each other and make sure it feels like a good fit for both of us. I welcome you to be upfront with your wants and needs in your therapy.
Is what I share confidential?
Client and therapist conversations are almost always private and confidential. The are a few exceptions to this rule that are intended to protect the safety of you and others: (1) You share that you will cause imminent and serious harm to yourself or another person and you are unwilling to agree to make a safety plan with me, (2) If I become aware of physical/sexual abuse, or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult, (3) If I receive a court order to share information with a judge or lawyer, and (4) In order to provide you with the best service, I may seek supervision and consultation from other health professionals, and in this case identifying information will always remain confidential and these professionals will have the same obligation to maintain confidentiality that I do
How long will it be until I start seeing the changes I want out of therapy?
This is different for all people! What I tend to tell people is that after 5-6 sessions of Lifespan Integration therapy, you should be feeling some changes, though they may be minor, or not what you expected. Sometimes growth can feel challenging and messy. Let's talk about this more in session.
